Top 3 Things You Need to Know Before Getting a Chemical Peel

A chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers. The skin that grows back after a chemical peel is smoother and younger-looking.

Chemical peels treat wrinkles, skin discoloration, and scars — typically on the face. A chemical peel can be done alone or in combination with other cosmetic procedures.

There are three different depths to chemical peels; light, medium, or deep. Each type of chemical peel uses a different chemical solution. Deeper chemical peels produce more dramatic results, but also involve longer recovery times.

Here are some tips to prep for your chemical peel.

Ask Which Peel is Right for You!

You may not want any downtime (peeling), so a lactic acid peel may be better for you! If peeling doesn’t bother you, Jessner’s Peel or TCA may be what you are looking for. Make sure you let your esthetician know what makes you most comfortable.

Have Realistic Expectations

If you have raised scarring, a chemical peel isn’t going to remove it. If you have several years of damage on your skin, a single peel isn’t going to remove it. It will, however, smooth, tighten and brighten your skin, leaving you with a more youthful appearance. Unless you opt for a deeper TCA peel, one isn’t going to give you the results you want. A series is by far the best way to get optimal results. Your esthetician can determine what type of series would be best for you.

Sunscreen is Your Best Friend
